Faith Marion Gibson Wittig, 86, formerly of Mansfield, CT died in Inverness, FL on November 22, 2017. She was born on August 12, 1931 in Winsted, CT to Kenneth Gibson and Marion Cawl. Faith spent much of her childhood and adolescence on horseback or in the barn. She was an expert seamstress who worked for Singer in Manchester, CT, and she was the Curator of the Mansfield Historical Society Museum. In Beverly Hills, FL she was on the Board of Directors of NAMI and operated their Warmline. Faith was an avid genealogist, talented cross-stitcher and gardener.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Edwin Curt Wittig, a son, Curt Kenneth Wittig, a brother, Kenneth Gibson, and a sister, Ruth Fluckiger. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Lank of Mansfield, CT, and two sons, Dale Wittig of San Francisco, CA and Gary Wittig of Mansfield, CT, as well as five grandchildren, Wesley, Nathaniel, Elijah, Noah and Cheyenne and six nieces and nephews. She also leaves her sister and brother-in-law, Betty and John Fluckiger of Tolland, CT.
There will be a graveside service on Friday, December 1, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Mansfield Center Cemetery on Cemetery Road. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at 1:00 pm at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship at 49 Spring Hill Road in Storrs, CT. All are welcome.
