Earl C. Nye

Earl C. Nye, 93, of Willimantic, CT passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on February 19, 2018 at Windham Community Hospital.

He was born in Coventry, CT on June 8, 1924, the son of the late William and Olive (Taylor) Nye.

He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church, Willimantic, CT.

Prior to retirement he was employed at The Button Factory, Hillhouse & Taylor and O.L. Willards. After retirement he enjoyed spending time with his loving wife and caring for their grandchildren. They were also able to enjoy living in Florida for part of the year and coming home to family, enjoying their seasonal home at Cha-Wi-Ma Campground in Chaplin, CT.

Earl enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox from “Carl Yastrzemski” to “Big Papi”, Boston Celtics especially John Havlichek and Jo Jo White, Women’s UConn Basketball and NASCAR. He enjoyed playing cards and board games with family and friends. He was a man of many talents and enjoyed working around his home. His grandchildren were his pride and joy and they always enjoyed their visits with him because he was a jokester and made them laugh. They will have long lasting memories of their visits with him. Earl’s humor and laughter touched upon many that will forever miss him.

He was predeceased by his wife, Aline (Veilleux) Nye of sixty-six years, his mother and father, three brothers, Bert, William, and Leon Nye, three sisters, Margaret Desilets, Viola Murphy and Dottie Polaina. He leaves behind three sons and their wives, Robert & Joyce Nye of Windham, CT, Earl & Tammy Nye of Columbia, CT, and Lance & Karen Nye, of Ashford, CT.  Nine grandchildren, Robert & his wife Kathleen, Cheyne & his wife Connie, Kaylee, Brittney, Tyler, Dylan, Patrick, Brandon, & Kyle Nye; four great-grandchildren, Jared Nye, Jacob Kandolin, Jordan & Morgan Nye, Oliver Parenteau, and Willow Nye; sister, Ginny Duchesneau; sister in-law, Simone Veilleux, brother in-law, Roland Veilleux, and many nieces and nephews.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at St. Mary’s Church, 46 Valley Street, Willimantic, CT at 10:00 A.M.  Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to St. Mary’s Church, 80 Maple Avenue, Willimantic, CT 06226 or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
