Donald Haggerty

Donald Haggerty, 61, of Willimantic, CT, husband of Doris (LaFlamme) Haggerty, passed away Wednesday morning, August 16, 2017, with his family by his side.  He was born January 30, 1956, in Willimantic, to the late John and Ellen(Geary) Haggerty.  Don was a graduate of Windham High School in 1974.  He was a beloved custodian at Edwin O. Smith High School for 30 years.  He also was actively involved with Union activities in the Willimantic area.  Don was extremely proud to share his love of vintage fire trucks each year at the “WILI Boom Box Parade”, VJ Day Parade and the Tree Lighting Parade.  Don was well known for his musical talents, as a vocalist and guitar player for his band, Original Recipe Band.  He would volunteer to play a concert every year at the Rocky Hill Veterans Home.  In addition to firetrucks, and music, Don also enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle.  In addition to his loving wife, Doris, Don is survived by four sons; three daughters; four sisters; Ellen Tamborini and her deceased husband Tambo, Betty Sousa and her husband Earl, Mary Miller and her husband Jim and Susan King; four brothers; Jack Haggerty and his wife Ellie, Dan Haggerty and his wife Linda, Tommy Haggerty and Jimmy Haggerty and his wife Elaine; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  Don was predeceased by his sister, Katherine and brother Jerold.  Don’s family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday August 22, 2017 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195), Willimantic.  A graveside service will be held on Wednesday August 23, 2017 at 11:00am at the Windham Center Cemetery, Rte. 203 Windham Center.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Willimantic Fire Fighters Local 1033; P.O.
