David H. Light, Sr., 91 of Windham, CT, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2017 at Douglas Manor in Windham Center, Connecticut surrounded by his wife, Helen, and his sons, David Light and Mark Light. He was born on January 21, 1926 in Willimantic, Connecticut to David T. Light and Annie Trigger Light. David married Helen Sarnowski on April 22, 1946 in Newport News, Virginia. They were happily married for 71 years.  
David grew up in Windham, Connecticut. He attended Windham High School until his enlistment in the Army at the age of 18 to proudly serve his country until he was honorably discharged in 1946. Following his honorable discharge and marriage to Helen in 1946, he returned to Connecticut, working for several years at Daole Hatchery and then as an electrician for the State of Connecticut, retiring in 1985. 
At the age of 16 he became a Charter Member when the Windham Center Fire Department re-established itself, and eventually followed in his father’s footsteps by becoming Chief for six years. During his service as a first responder he received numerous awards from the State of Connecticut, including the Courant Hometown Hero Award. He was honored with a Life Membership in the WCFD.
David is survived by his wife, Helen of Windham; his brother, Eugene (Joan); his sons, David (Susan) and Mark (Diane) of Windham; grandchildren, Melissa Banfill (Brian) and Amanda Walter; Mark Light, Jr. (Lisa) and Jennifer Bates (Shawn); and 9 great-grandchildren: Kyle and Kayla Banfill; Tyler & Bryce Walter; Zachery and Ashley Light; Kristopher, Karson and Kobie Bates.  
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the Windham Center Fire Department, P. O. 265, Windham, CT 06280.

Burial with Military Honors will be conducted on Saturday, April 22, 11:00 AM in the Windham Center Cemetery.
