Caroline Makray Obituary

Caroline M. Makray, 86, wife of the late Rudolph Makray, lifelong resident of Ashford, passed away peacefully at home on August 23, 2019. She was born in Stafford Springs on November 14, 1932, the daughter of the late Mike and Carrie (Wilson) Chebro.

Carol graduated from The Connecticut School of Hairdressing in Hartford.  She spent much of her life caring for her son. Carol drove the school bus in Ashford and was Deputy Sheriff and State Marshall for several years.  She was a member of the Hungarian Social Club and the Ashford Fire Department Woman’s Auxillary.

Carol was a thoughtful caring person who was an avid UCONN Huskies basketball fan. She liked watching and feeding all variety of birds. In years past, they loved taking long snowmobile rides to pass time in the winter. Carol enjoyed traveling.  On one occasion, she took her whole family on a trip to Alaska. She liked making holiday dinners, especially with her daughters. They would make stuffed cabbage for their Christmas dinner.

Carol is survived by three daughters, Kathleen Makray and her husband Rob, Dona Pare and Rick of Maine and Linda Plourde and her husband Paul; granddaughter Carrie Smith; great-grandchildren, Larissa Mahoney, Kaitlyn Mason, Emily Meucci, Benjamin and Jacob Smith; three great-great grandchildren Jennifer Mahoney, Jace and Autumn Green; sisters Jackie Bradley and her husband Barry and Joan Celotti and her husband George; a sister-in-law Eva Annati and her husband Frank and several nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her son Rudy Jr.; two granddaughters, Amelia Mason and Jennifer Beyor, and a brother Michael Chebro and her loving dog Tina.

Carol’s family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 from 10:00am to 12:00pm at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Willimantic, with her funeral service beginning at 12:00pm.  Burial will follow at St. Philips Cemetery, Ashford.

Our thanks to Robin, who cared for Carol at home and to hospice and the staff at Mansfield Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation, where she received excellent care.
