Welcome to the memorial page for

Anna Mae (Potter) Segar

June 22, 1927 ~ March 20, 2019 (age 91) 91 Years Old

Anna Mae Segar, 91, of Windham passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at home after a short illness. She was born in Willimantic on June 22, 1927, the daughter of George and Nettie (Moseley) Potter. In 1946, she married Raymond E. Segar and after a short stay in Rockport Texas while Ray completed his service in the United States Navy, they returned to Windham where Anna Mae began a life devoted to family and friends. She worked at Electro-Motive and Brand Rex and also as a tour guide when Ray drove on Constitution Coach Bus trips. She was a lifetime member of the Windham Center Congregational Church. She will be remembered by her family as the person who always put their needs and happiness before her own. Her husband, son and later her grandchildren were the mainstays of her life. Together, Anna Mae and Ray worked tirelessly to ensure a good life for the next generations.

Anna Mae loved being a country woman. She worked, side by side with Ray, to prepare fields, orchards and gardens and would ride around the farm with her beloved dog, Dakota, on her golf cart and enjoy seeing the results of their labors. Her many friends will remember her as a true, faith-filled woman who would delight in their presence, whether at a quiet gathering, a meal or one of the large outdoor picnics she and Ray would host. Her home was a center of hospitality where stories were shared and oftentimes embellished and memories were cherished, celebrated and created. She enjoyed Saturday night dances with Ray, cooking, baking and sewing, cats and dogs and the Red Sox. In her later years, she loved to have her grandchildren around her even if they were watching Sponge Bob on tv, to drive when she could and she especially enjoyed the company of May’s mother, Bing Williams.

Anna Mae was predeceased by her brother, Allyn Potter and her sister Hazel Foster. She leaves her son Robert and his wife May and three grandchildren whom she adored, Meg, Robb and Ryan Segar, and several nieces and nephews.

Her family will receive relatives and friends at the Windham Center Congregational Church on Saturday, March 30 between 10:00 and 11:00am with her Funeral Service beginning at 11:00 A.M. Interment will follow in Windham Center Cemetery. Reception will follow at church. For an online memorial guestbook, please visit www.potterfuneralhome.com.
