Kenneth S. Landon

Kenneth S. Landon, 89, of Chaplin, passed away Saturday April 19, 2014 at Windham Hospital with his children and caregiver at his side, after a battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was born Nov. 24, 1924 in Chaplin, son of the late Floyd and Marion (Burdick) Landon. Kenneth started driving milk truck for his uncle Bill Burdick. He was a WW2 Army Infantry veteran serving in the European Theater. He continued driving delivering grain for Berkman's and then became employed by Potter's Oil Service for over forty years before retiring in 1993. He enjoyed fishing and swimming in the Natchaug River and also enjoyed bowling both Ten Pin and Duckpin. He was one of the original members of the Hampton-Chaplin Ambulance Corps, was also a member of the Hampton Fire Dept. and had served on the Board of Education in Hampton. He was previously married to the late Margaret (Streeter) Landon. Kenneth is survived by two children, Gail Landon and friend Fred Spoerl of Hampton and Robert Landon and his wife Janet of Chaplin; three grandchildren, Lisa Culpepper of Dayville, Steven Landon of Mansfield and Jason Landon of Chaplin, three great grandchildren, brother Walter Landon of Chaplin, sisters Virginia Arnold of Windham, Alice Musial of Chaplin, Fern Legault of Manchester and Peg Hansen of Manchester; and his care giver Carol and her daughter Megan. He was predeceased by brothers Howard, Gordon and Wilbur and sister Verna. His family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday April 23, 2014 between 6:00 and 8:00pm at Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic. Funeral services will be held Thursday at the convenience of the family with interment in South Chaplin Cemetery with military honors.
