Walter D Temple, of Ashford, CT and formerly of Old Greenwich, Branford, Marco Island FL and Louden TN, passed away on June 29, 2017. He was 94. He was predeceased by his wife Roberta and daughter Prudence.

Born in Dennison, Ohio on February 16, 1923 to the late Walter and Clara (Simmons) Temple, Walter grew up in Rutherford, NJ where he met the love of his life Roberta, affectionately nicknamed Skipper.

Walter served in the army during WWII and was assigned German POW supervision. He taught English while perfecting his German and remained friends with some internees after the war, visiting them in Germany and hosting them here in the US.

A graduate of Stevens Institute of Technology, Walter began his career with Iron Fireman. In 1965 he moved his family to Branford and was employed by Wyatt Fuel in New Haven as Vice President of Operations. After 20 years he retired and moved to Marco Island, Fla and relocated again to Laudon TN.

Walter believed in a life of service. He was proud to be a part of Gideon International, handing Bibles to college students even after his 94th birthday.  Walter was also a member of Rotary International. He and Roberta were host family to many foreign students attending high school or local universities. He and Roberta also fostered as many as 27 children, one whom they adopted.

He lived by the gospel John 3:16.

Walter leaves daughter Constance Holder of Pennsylvania and Monica Sievel (Mark) of Newtown. He was the proud grandfather of Kirsten, Aaron, Amber, Ada and Alex and great grandfather of Maegan, Daniel, Benjamin and Nathaniel. He was also proud to include in his family Mitsuko Ichinose of New Haven, his international daughter.
