Visvaldis Indars, 87, of South Windham, died peacefully on Saturday, August 12, 2017, at Hartford Hospital with his daughter, Elizabeth (Indars) Perekrests, and his son, Martin Indars, at his side. Born on December 7, 1929, in Latvia, Visvaldis was the son of Peteris and Berta (Britāne) Indars. In 1944 World War II forced Visvaldis and his family to German refugee camps. He remained in Toronto for a decade, during which he worked as a logger and carpenter. Visvaldis then immigrated to the United States and specifically Willimantic, CT. He met his future wife, the late Ilze (Vimba) Indars, and they wed on March 3, 1962. Visvaldis framed houses and later founded the Indars Stair Company. Visvaldis enjoyed spending time with his family and working in the outdoors – particularly at the New Hampshire cabin he shared with his sister-in-law Ieva Indars and his late brother, Jānis Indars. In addition to Elizabeth, Martin and Ieva, Visvaldis is survived by his sister, Velta Sils, of Riga, Latvia, a brother, Gunars Indars of Littleton, Ma.; sisters-in-law Arija Indars and Rita Indars; grandsons Andrej and Jonathan Perekrests and granddaughter Lea Perekrests, and other family and friends. Visvaldis was predeceased by brothers Arvids Indars and Jānis Indars, and brother-in-law Viktors Sils. Family and friends are welcome to visit from 10:30 to 11 a.m. on Friday, August 18, 2017 at Ebenezer Lutheran Church, 96 Oak St., Willimantic, CT.
