Theodore Lawrence Gellert, Jr, 90, of Abington, Ct. Ted was born Dec. 7, 1926 and in Manchester, CT to Theodore L. Gellert, Sr. and Marjorie Stellenwerf.

He was married for 45 years to the late Virginia Eldridge Gellert.  They co-owned Bittersweet Hill Christmas Tree Farm. He attended Windham High school, the University of Connecticut and the University of Hartford. Ted was both a WW II Navy Veteran (serving aboard the USS Mitchell and USS Prairie) and a Korean War Navy Vet. He then signed on with the Naval Reserves as a Seabee. While in the reserves, Ted also worked as a lineman for S.N.E.T for 31 yrs. from 1956-1957 on loan to Western Electric. Ted was stationed on Baffin Island, 200 miles above the Arctic Circle as an inspector on the Dew Line (Distant Early Warning). Ted retired from the U.S. Naval Reserves after 28yrs with the rank of Chief Petty Officer.  Ted was an active member of many organizations Inc. The VFW, American Legion, State Rifle and Revolver Assoc. just to name a few.  In retirement, Ted enjoyed traveling the world with his wife Ginny.  Ted is survived by a sister-in-law Marie Scott Eldridge of Windham, Barbara Eldridge of Scotland, brother- in-law and sister-in-law Cecil and Betty Scott of Warren, MI; nieces Tammy Eldridge of Windham, Susan Eldridge Magnan (Keith) of Mansfield, Ga., Donna Eldridge Draxler, Jennifer Eldridge of W, Gardiner, ME. and Rev. Nancy Bass of Clinton Township, MI., also three nephews Mayor Ernest Eldridge (Anita Sebestyen) of Windham, Charles (Butch) Eldridge of Windham, and Duke Scott (Raqual) of Clinton Township, MI., as well as several great nieces and nephews.  Ted’s family will receive friends at the Windham Center Congregational Church, 4 Windham Center Rd., Windham Center, CT on Monday October 16, 2017 from 5:00pm to 6:00pm with a service to follow.  Burial at the convenience of the family.
