AD3 Aviation Machinist’s Mate Shawn Hinman Kiss, 55, passed away at his home in Suffield Connecticut on June 18, 2017.
Shawn was born in Willimantic on December 14, 1961 to the late Norman and Andra Kiss. He was welcomed to the world by his older brothers, Douglas Kiss and Kevin Kiss, preceding his sister, Katie Kiss. One of four children always meant a house and neighborhood full of constant fun and mischief, both of which Shawn was no stranger to. He attended Windham High School, graduating with the class of 1979.
Shawn was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, serving his country on the flight line while aboard the USS Nimitz with the VF-41 “Black Aces” Fighter Squadron from 1980 to 1985.
He married Terry Beaumont in 1982. They had two children, Stephen James and Kyle Robert. Shawn was an extremely loving, proud father, who was devoted to both of his sons, and later in life became a wonderful grandfather to Elliotte Rose, his granddaughter.
He will always be remembered for his kind heart, and the quick-witted conversations he could hold better than most everyone. He loved the outdoors and his pets.
Shawn was predeceased by his parents, and his son Kyle Kiss.
Shawn is survived by his son, Stephen Kiss, his daughter-in-law Rebecca Kiss, his granddaughter Elliotte Kiss, his brothers Douglas Kiss and Kevin Kiss, his sister Katie Kiss, his nephews Tyler Johnson, Jason Kiss, and Gregory Kiss, his niece Nicole Klaus, and many military brothers from his Navy family.
The family will receive relatives and friends Friday June 23, 2017 from 5:00pm to 6:30pm at Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic, with a Memorial Service starting at 6:30 pm.
