Maurice M. McClure

August 8, 1930 ~ November 1, 2017 (age 87) 87 Years Old

Maurice M. McClure, 87, of Willimantic, died peacefully Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at the VA Medical Center in West Haven. Born at Windham Hospital to the late George and Yvonne McClure, he lived his entire life in the Willimantic area. Many knew him as Maurice, and also Mark and Moe. You could often find him playing cards at the Legion, betting on the horses or at the dog track. He also enjoyed bird watching, gardening and tending to his fish.  Maurice leaves behind his children, Nancy Booterbaugh and her husband Ira, Michael McClure and his wife Linda, Linda Orsos, John McClure, Maurice McClure Jr and his wife Kim.  Maurice started his military career in the National Guard. He served in the 1st Marine Air Wing Division as a U.S. Marine in the Korean War. He earned the rank of Sergeant during his service. After the military, Maurice worked at the Windham Water Department and served as a Town Constable. He was a life member and Past Post Commander at the American Legion Post 19 and the AMVETS Post 2. He was a life member of the 1st Marine Division Association, Veterans of Foreign Affairs, Disabled American Veterans, and the Exclusive Fraternity of Honor: The Chosen Few. Maurice’s family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, November 11, 2017 from 9:30am to 11:30am at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., (Rte 195) Willimantic. A graveside service will immediately follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Windham.
