Mary Corinne (Locke) Gray

February 19, 1928 ~ April 3, 2018 (age 90) 90 Years Old

Mary Corinne Gray, 90, of North Windham, died Tuesday April 3, 2018 St. Joseph Living Center.  Corinne was born in Erie, Kansas.  She was the Valedictorian of her high school, while working at her father’s Locke Abstract Co., and attended the University of Kansas as a Watkins Scholar; after earning her Bachelors degree, she was on a path to become one of the first women attorneys in the state.  Following the war, she married Richard Gray, a music therapist and former POW, and raised four children in Topeka, Kansas.  Her 35-year career in Special Ed began when she answered an ad in Athens, Ohio to teach in the Beacon School, where she discovered a deep passion and a profound gift.  In Pittsburgh, she earned a Masters degree at Duquesne University, and then founded a sheltered workshop for disabled adults; she later ran Goodwill Industries there where she continued to work for over 30 years until finally retiring at age 79. In 2006 Richard and Corinne moved to North Windham, CT. She was predeceased by Richard and two grandchildren, and is survived by her four children (Jerry Gray and his wife Sharon of Murrysville, PA; Jill Benedict and her husband Pete of Bolton, CT; Janet Marciniak of Norwich, CT; and Jonathan Gray and his wife Tara of Medfield, MA), eight grandchildren (Lindsay Gray Miller and her husband Cliff Miller, Justin Gray, Bethany Gray, Jessica Marciniak, Jeremy Marciniak, Raphaela Gray, Hayden Gray, and Beckett Gray), and one great-grandchild (Jake Miller).  The memorial service will be held at the Presbyterian Church of Coventry, CT at 55 Trowbridge Road on April 7, 2018 at 1pm, and will be followed at a later date by interment at Windham Center Cemetery, Windham, CT.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to www.azpawngiftofmobility.com (or by calling 860 889 4474); or alternatively to provide help for returning veterans at www.clearpathne.org (or by mailing a check to Clear Path for Veterans New England at PO Box 2073, Devens, MA 01434).  For an online memorial guestbook please visit www.potterfuneralhome.com.
