Margaret E. (Sullivan) Martin, 83, formally of Columbia and Glastonbury, CT passed away peacefully at her home in Lock Haven, PA on December 20, 2017.  She was the beloved wife of Samuel Kenneth Martin for 62 years and raised 5 children together. Born in Elizabeth, New Jersey she was the daughter of John R. and Hazel E. (Gesser) Sullivan.  Peggy graduated from T. A. Edison Vocational Technical High School in Elizabeth, New Jersey majoring in dressmaking and design.  While her children were young, Peggy was a homemaker in CT then NJ, and was a Cub Scout den mother. Her children’s friends often called her “Mom.”   Once her children grew older, she worked as a cashier and seamstress.  She had a kind and generous heart, and used her sewing talents to hand-make everything from wedding gowns, teddy bears, christening gowns, and many other creations for her family and friends.  Peggy was an avid doll collector and enjoyed reading, especially about Native American and Amish culture.  She was a member of the Lock Haven Senior Circle, Silver Sneakers, and Knotty Knitters.  Her generosity extended to knitting hats, gloves, and prayer shawls to donate to various charities, and helmet liners and pocket prayer squares for the military.  Besides her husband Samuel, she is survived by her 5 children, David Martin of Torrington, CT; Phyllis Martin-Borrero and husband Henry and children Henry Jr. and Felicia of Stewartsville, NJ; Denise Maura and daughter, Jessica of Wethersfield, CT; Kenneth Martin of Plymouth, MI; and Susan Scotti and husband Kevin and children, Thomas and Elizabeth of Granby, CT.  She is also survived by her sisters, Dorothy Davis of Columbia, CT; Rita Higgins and husband Robert of Ludlow, VT; and many beloved nieces and nephews.  The family offers their special thanks to neighbors Julie and Dan Borges for their support and friendship. Margaret’s family will see relatives and friends at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson Street, Willimantic, CT on Friday, December 29, 2017 from 9:30-10:30 am, followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 am at Columbia Congregational Church (the same church where she was married), 325 CT Route 87, Columbia, CT.  Cremation and burial will follow at the convenience of the family.  “Never good bye, just so long.”  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association 1701 N.
