Welcome to the memorial page for

John G. Andrychowski

January 29, 1924 ~ October 18, 2017 (age 93) 93 Years Old

John George Andrychowski, 93, of Columbia, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, October 18, 2017, after a brief illness. Born January 29, 1924 on the family farm on Bricktop Road in Willimantic, he was the youngest child of Wadyslaw and Tekla (Kwasniewska) Andrychowski. At an early age he joined the United States Navy and served on North Atlantic convoy duty leading up to and during World War II. Following this tour he attended the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis. When he was discharged from the Navy he returned home to participate in and support the family business.  In 1950 he married Ann Furtek and with her established their own home, family, and farm in Columbia, where he lived for the rest of his life. Known to all of his nieces and nephews as “Uncle Bill”, he was a true practitioner of the Yankee ethic: hard work, customer service, frugality, and stubbornness. His endeavors, along with his brother Emil (“Uncle Mac”: thus E&J Farms), included dairy, lumber milling, and meat processing (a business run by his son Bobby that continues to this day). He is survived by his sons Robert of Willimantic and Steven of New Britain; his daughters Nancy Theriault of New Smyrna Beach, FL, Jane Cappello and her husband “Cappy” of Jim Thorpe, PA, and Susan Brewe and her husband Dale of Naperville, IL; grandsons Jeff, Brian and Nick; granddaughters Marisa, Carly, Erika and Andrea; and many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his parents, wife Ann, son Michael, brothers Raymond, Stanley, Emil and Joseph; and sisters Eugenia, Ethel and Casmera.  A memorial service is planned for a later date.
