On twitter today, someone asked people to post, stating who their favorite teacher was and I thought back and I picked Ridgway. He was my thesis advisor as a senior at UCONN and wrote one of my recommendations to law school. I retired last August after 35 years of practicing law. He was a joy to be around!

Greetings and just had a similar urge to lookup a favorite professor and advisor. I echo your sentiments and reflect a class in which IR was late and a classmate happened to do a 5 minute impersonation of his speaking style and mannerisms. The Professor happened to enter the classroom and honestly cracked up over the impromptu show. We simply loved him in the early 70's.

To all of Professor Davis’ family, I offer my deepest condolences. Prof Davis was my advisor, friend, and the best teacher I have ever encountered. He brought out the best in all of his students, instilled confidence, and cultivated a passion for learning. He was funny, witty, and kind, and had a way of making everyone feel like family. And what a story teller!!! Plus, he was a true gentleman. Who at UConn wasn’t familiar with the daily silhouette of Ridg and Peg holding hands as they headed for home at the end of the day from the library? The love emanated from them. I will forever treasure the time I spent with these two absolutely amazing people.
Professor Davis, thank you for taking me into your fold. I am where I am today because of all of your sage advice, both during college, and in the many years since.

With love,
Mary Jo Blanchard

What an endearing and tearful reflection of IR.
I had the extreme pleasure of having him as my advisor some 20 years earlier. How wonderful to hear he gave his all his students for all that time. Made it a class not to be missed. So humbling during my last visit to Storrs and his office was no longer there.

I will forever remember making Dr. Davis (and his lovely wife) chocolate milkshakes at the UConn Dairy Bar. He swore the doctor prescribed it to him! I always enjoyed chatting with him and hearing about his time teaching. My sincere sympathies to his family.

Just learned of his passing. What a smart., funny, wonderful man and great teacher. He was also my go-to guy for decision making guidance as I had the great fortune to have him as a very wise counselor. I think of him often.

Greetings Steve just wondered if we were in the same class when a classmate Andy Amendola did an impersonation when IR was late to class.

I just found out the news of Ridgway's passing. He will be very missed. I worked for him in the pre-law office my senior year at Uconn ('99) and he and Peg and I became friends. They were so kind and encouraging to me over the years. I am grateful to have known both of them.

I remember Dr. Davis with great fondness as my academic adviser and teacher in the Political Science Department. He was a willing and compassionate listener and provided me with sound advice as I contemplated law school. He directed me to just the right school for which I shall forever be grateful. My condolences on the loss of a great man.

I am very sorry to learn of the passing of your father. It sad to see the old Birchwood Heights neighbors leaving us. While we may not have been terribly close, a neighbor is/was a neighbor. Our prayers are with you. I send this for the whole Whitham clan, I am certain they would agree.

I am saddened to hear the news of Prof. Davis' passing. He was a dear friend of my parents, and my college advisor. Always a kid hearted gentleman, he would call to check in with me at least twice a year to inquire about my father, myself and my family, and to share stories of his own family. Sending my love to his family.
