Herndon Wilkerson Raine Jr.

Herndon Wilkerson Raine, Jr., affectionately known to his family as “Bubba”, passed away on September 22, 2016 at Rockville Hospital surrounded by family.  He was born July 30, 1948 in Mobile, Alabama to Josephine and Herndon Raine Sr. (now deceased).  Herndon was known to keep his family and friends smiling and laughing with his quick wit and jokes.  For over 30 years he was an employee of the University of Connecticut Department of Chemical Engineering and the Connecticut Department of Mental Retardation (Mansfield Training School).    He is survived by a large extended family including:  aunt – Artence Walton; sisters – Dr. Janice (Rev. James) Sloan and Dr. Brenda Raine; brother – Wilfred (Regina) Raine, MD; nieces – Jia Gay and Joycelyn Jones; nephew – Jason Kennedy; first cousins – Forestine Williams, Sydney (Ursell) Raine, Madeline (Alfred) Stokes, Birdie (Rev. Richard) Pogue, Girard Raine Jr., Beverly (Raymond) Smith , Helen Schooler, Esrich Walton Jr., Sylvia (J.D.) Jackson and a host of other family members and friends who loved him dearly.  Herndon loved deeply his godson, Nikita Lakomkin and spent many special times with his best friend Henry (Laurie) Wade.  A private memorial will be held on Friday, September 30, 2016 at his home.  In lieu of flowers or other expressions of sympathy, donations may be given to the Herndon Raine Jr. Memorial Fund at:
